Roundup!

Ok Wingstockers!  Tomorrow is the big day.  Here is a final roundup of the Wingstock HD plan:

- Arrive at the hotel at 3 pm (hotel address link).  Scott is planning to check in early.  Reservation is under my name.  Or text/BBM me to find out our room numbers.
- Travel to the concert at 7 pm
- Radiohead comes on at 8:45 pm and should play until around 11 pm
- Travel back downtown (to hotel for a quick change)
- Head out for a nightcap or two!

After speaking with a few of you, I was able to secure special transportation to and from the show for $200 round trip (total plus tip).  Given that a one-way cab ride is $45 and that public transit involves a 1 hour subway + bus ride, I know this will make our night much more enjoyable!

10 predictions for Wingstock HD

1. Fuss will be the last one to bed.
2. Scott will love it when Radiohead covers "Call Me Maybe".
3. Chad will turn 36.
4. Matt's Friends of the Earth T-shirt will be a real hit with the locals.
5. Cam will be challenged to a Battle Royale and will be shocked when his challenger pulls off his shirt.
6. Nathan will dance the entire concert without sweating one bit.
7. Jeff will pay for Fuss's dinner because Fuss will wear the Fuss sweater.
8. Chad will hear "nice hair" at least 5 times.
9. The Weregout will rise.
10. Fuss will "tripod".

Fuss wanted a weather report!

Hey Dave!  Here is the weather report for Toronto.  By scrolling down to the long-term forecast, you'll see it's looking like cloudy periods and a high of 26 degrees for Wingstock HD.  Since long term forecasts are consistently super-accurate, I'm feeling pretty good.  I even added a weather widget to the right hand column of this Blog.  I'm going to call it the Fuss Weather Widget.  Maybe just the "Little Fuss."

Winger is turning 36!!!!!

The "reason for the season" as they say, is a Radiohead conc - no!  It's not!!  It's the one, the only, the father of many, son to a few, babyarm wielding, diagonal sage, he of great hair, the $1,000,000 smile, and the charm to back it up - Chadwick Roy Winger's 36th birthday on Saturday!

So pack your 5-hour-energy shots, your refreshments of choice, your best button-down Amnesty International shirt, because Thom, Jonny and the boys are just a part (an awesome part...in all seriousness don't even talk to me during the show...just kidding...actually no, seriously, don't) of our overall Wingstock HD experience!!!

Does it get any better!!??

Hockey strategy

Of course there's more than basketball going on right now.  There are butt-picking French Open champions and there are the L.A. Kings winning their first Stanley Cup.  Part of their winning strategy was to deploy an adult film star behind the New Jersey bench.  Impressive!

Miami Heat celebratory dance

I've previously reported my enjoyment of this year's NBA playoffs.  The biggest highlight so far, however, came after the latest win by the Miami Heat when they held a locker room dance party and grooved to the theme song from the Legend of Zelda.

5 days to go! - Update on timelines

Hello all:

Just five days to go until Wingstock HD.  I've been trying to keep our little Blog as entertaining as possible over the past couple weeks (admittedly I've gone a bit overboard on the animated GIFs).  But now it's time to get down to the brass tacks:

Concert Time:  Radiohead comes on stage at 8:45 pm.  I'm personally uninterested in leaving much to chance in terms of missing their opening...so I'll be aiming to get there by 8 pm.

Concert Logistics:  here's the link to Downsview Park's website.  This map is pretty much golden.  Looks like it's a subway ride to Downsview station and a short bus trip over to the park gates.  It looks like it's about an hour trip via transit.  Might be a good idea head up there a bit early to grab some food and then head to the show.  Another good option would be to cab it to the show and use the Subway to get out of dodge after the show...good to have our choices sorted in advance.  I have one other idea I'm looking into as well.

Hotel Cost:  total cost for the hotel is $273.59/6 = $45.60 each, presuming 6 of us are in.  With 5 of us (if someone drops out) it's $54.72.  Bargain either way!

Hotel Check-In:  check in time is 3 pm.  I have requested an early check-in but we can only find out if we get it when we arrive.  Are any of you planning to be there before 3 pm?  If so, I'll put your name down so you can get a room key if you beat me there.  Let me know.

Tickets:  a couple of you haven't paid me for the Radiohead tickets.  Please remember to do that.  It's $79.36 per ticket.

Lotus Flower - SBTRKT RMX

Make sure you hang on at least to the 1:30 mark.  Radiohead endorsed BTW...perhaps you know, but they commissioned a whole pile of remixes of The King of Limbs.

And just for kicks here's the original.  I think I'd pay to see Thom on Dancing with the Stars.

Hey Thom! Fuss is coming to Wingstock HD!!!

...here's how Thom reacted upon hearing of Fuss's presence at Wingstock HD:

Sunday NBA Roundup

I am more excited about the NBA Finals this year than I have been in a least a decade.  In honour of some good basketball, I present...some funny NBA GIFs...

#1 - big dude takes it to the rim during the halftime show!  (not quite)

#2 - always a gentleman...

#3 - Cuban is pleased...one look at the score tells you why...

#4 - check out the dude in the background - nice "travelling" dance...

#5 - and finally, this guy is doing an impression of the Facebook IPO...

Yet another loyal Nickelback fan weighs in...

I wonder what this Gross fellow thinks about Radiohead.  My wild guess is "a little bit more than he thinks about Nickelback, that's for sure."  If you really want a bit more Nickelback, this is actually a fun read.

Anyhow, this was kinda funny so I wanted to share...

Before there was Radiohead

Back when Radiohead was known as "On a Friday" (referring to their usual rehearsal day in the school's music room) and before they even released their debut single (Creep came out in 1992)...back then there was a group of dudes that knew that some 22 years later they'd be about to embark on an epic Wingstock HD adventure.

From last night

I don't really have to tell you much about this song.  This was from Radiohead's headlining performance at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee.  One week to go!!

House of Cards video

In Radiohead's video for "House of Cards", no cameras or lights were used. Instead, 3D plotting technologies collected information about the shapes and relative distances of objects. The video was created entirely with visualizations of that data. Directed by James Frost. From the album IN RAINBOWS.

Hotel booked!

Success!  I got us a good deal!  I went for 2 rooms at a 4-star through Priceline in "Toronto downtown north" for $110 US per room.  And they accepted!  We're in at the Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre.  It's very favourably reviewed.  Total cost is $259.52 US for the two rooms so I'll see what it comes to with exchange on my Visa.  Safe to say that with 5 of us it will be about $60 each.  Nice!!!  Rates start at $209 per room on their website, so I think we did OK.

And it's got the goods:

- prime location and close to subway stops (which may be key as our escape route from Downsview Park)
- 18th floor rooftop pool and whirlpool
- 4-star nice rooms

Actual address is 525 Bay Street if you would like to look it up.  Check in is at 3 pm but I'm going to contact the hotel to see if I can get us an early check in.

We are accidents waiting to happen...

From May 31st.  Two drummers.  And two guitarists playing drums.  Well...I think Jonny Greenwood is better known as a "multi-instrumentalist."  I'm getting excited.

Sweatergate news!

Breaking news on Sweatergate!  Our investigative reporting division has just discovered that the Fuss Sweater could actually have been a tribute to - maybe even an inspiration for - U2's "No Line on the Horizon" album cover.  It might just be an appropriate frock to wear to a rock show!

I mean, the Fuss Sweater really is amazing.  At what point does it actually turn from light to dark?  We need the Sweater at Wingstock HD.

You be the judge!

The plot thickens!!!!

C'mon Fuss!

I think that's a dare Fuss!!!!  Will you do it?  Will our eyeballs survive?  It's a compelling offer...let's be real:  all drinks looked after by Matt!  I'll even add to this:  I'll pick up your dinner tab.  C'mon Fussles, I think your "Hard Knocks Dolphins" would say something along the lines of "man up!"  Let's bring out the sweater!

Time for some more Radiohead content

Hello gents:

Happy Saturday evening.  I figured we had better get a bit more Radiohead flavour to our lovely blog.  So you might notice some small changes that I'll make along the way to keep us all interested.  I'll also post some Radiohead material because, well, we invited them to Wingstock HD.

To start things off here in the main area, I would like to share a new song that I quite enjoy and that we have a solid chance of hearing.  It's called "Staircase" and this is the definitive version as it doesn't appear on an album.  It was only released on their website (and I think you can download it free there right now if you want).  Anyhow...enjoy...

Chad is in for the hotel! So....?

So you may have heard...Chad Roy Winger is in for the hotel for Wingstock HD.  When the event is named after you, you kinda have to be in, right?  Or does it matter less when it's the third event named after you?  Well, either way, when Radiohead comes to Toronto just because it's your birthday all of these things just happen!

Now Chad and Greg look pretty happy in this shot eh?  And as for Nathan...he snuck in (not the first time)....(that's what she said).

If we here at the Wingstock HD web HQ were able to interview Mr. Winger regarding this photo here are a few questions we might ask:

(1) Fashion is becoming an important sub-topic to our readership.  Can you comment on your experience with short-sleeved button-up shirts?  What do the ladies think?
(2) You look a little "extra blonde" in this shot?  What's the story there?
(3) Remember that time you lost a tooth in Australia?
(4) Matt offered to yell "Pyramid Song" at the show if I put him on my shoulders.  If I extend the same offer to you, what would you yell?
(5) Going diagonal is quicker, so I've heard.  What happens when you zig-zag?

Answers to Questions!

I'm not sure if you would have seen the comments under the "Matt post" so I'll recap them here...some vital answers to some urgent questions.  Hot off the press:

Saturday Update: Union Station Floods - but this will not stop Wingstock HD

...now as for the sharks in the water, they might have something to say.  Don't worry, I made it home OK.  Actually that's because I worked from home yesterday.

Watch for more updates!!

Fuss and Scott are manning the bar!

As you can see, Wingstock HD won't be the first time that Scott and Fuss join forces to tend some serious bar.  That's why we're going to get this hotel thing sorted out!  So we can turn our attention to much more important details like the bar set up and the festivities!

Matt's in for everything but the hotel - the choir rejoices nonetheless!!!!

Matt is in.  Of course.  But not for the hotel.  This means it's time to consider these other important questions:

1. Will Matt wear a button-down? (my guess...maybe)
2. Does he still have this tie? (my guess...doubtful)
3. Will we see this face during Wingstock HD? (this is a lead-pipe-lock - yes!)
4. Will Matt scream "Pyramid Song!" at the concert multiple times? (for sure)
5. Odds Matt will get in a fight in the Downsview Park parking lot Cure-Detroit-style? (doubtful)

Fuss is in for the hotel - this is Fusserific news!

Dave perusing the menu of activities for another similar event 8 years ago.  I wonder if past Dave could envision the fun he would be about to have at Fussapalooza and now Wingstock HD!

The tickets!!!!!

I'm getting excited...can you tell?  Here are our tickets!!!!!

This is NOT Radiohead related...but I enjoyed...so why not share!!??

Thursday, May 31, 2012

While we're at it...we need to ramp up activity on this thing.  So check this out:

So, the Radiohead tickets arrived in the mail from W.A.S.T.E. today.  Woohoo!  Next order of business is to pick a hotel...who's in?

Wingstock HD is on!!!

Ticket presales are always super-fun and this morning was no exception. But here is some great Wingstock HD news! After spending about 90 minutes clicking refresh in multiple browsers on two laptops and an iPad - we were rewarded! The six Wingstock HD "early birds" each have a ticket for the super-exciting Radiohead show at Downsview Park on Mr. Chadwick Roy Winger's birthday. I was like super spy: I cracked through the 4 ticket limit with some highly complex cryptographic techniques (...using two email addresses to sign up for the presale twice).

We are victorious!!

For others to join this event, here are a few ideas:

(1) Try www.radiohead.com/tourdates today and you might still get lucky with the pre-sale.

(2) Go to Ticketmaster tomorrow (click here). Tickets go on sale at 12 noon.

(3) Don't worry at all about the tickets now and just come to Toronto with us on June 16th and try to get into the show and/or join us for the pre- and after-party!

Announcing Wingstock 3 - this time with Radiohead!

My fellow Canadians,

I hope this news finds you well. After some significant behind-the-scenes lobbying, we are finally in a position to write to you with a suitable proposal for Wingstock 3. This event will also be known as Wingstock HD. With apologies to that little tech firm out of California, I know this announcement will dwarf the news of their newest tablet device tomorrow.

Wingstock HD (with Radiohead)

June 16th 2012

Downsview Park, Toronto

We have worked with Radiohead.com to invite a few other folks to join us, and tickets go on sale this Thursday, March 8th. Let me know your thoughts ASAP. I'm not sure of the ticket limit on the site and while I'd be happy to coordinate I'm sure the venue will be general admission so we could all buy individually.

Wingstock 3. This time in HD. With Radiohead. And you.
